Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet will perform a special New York City engagement May 5 – 10, 2009 at The Joyce Theater, 175 Eighth Avenue (at 19th Street). The acclaimed company is returning to the Joyce with a new program of work from the gifted choreographer featuring: “Rasa”, an exhilarating and transformative work set to tabla master Zakir Hussain’s rhythmic beat and another New York Premiere tba.
South African dance lovers will be delighted to know that in May this year, a company of outstanding young dancers from Cuba will grace our stages when they present two seasons at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town and at the Aula Theatre at the University of Pretoria.

Witness Relocation, whom Performing Arts Journal dubbed "a dance-theater anarchist's utopia," will perform "Haggaddah," a work based on the Passover Seder. The project will link post-modern dance, narrative storytelling, rock concerts, lectures, and dramatic scenes into a vibrant artistic rendering of one of the world’s most ancient holidays.
The Hong Kong Ballet (HKB)'s Beijing Tour 2009, which concluded last week at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, was a resounding success. BALLET BUILDERS celebrates its 25th Anniversary Season in 2009 with two performances at the DiCapo Opera Theater. Founded by Ruth Chester and Michael Kraus, Ballet Builders has offered performance opportunities to almost 100 choreographers and to hundreds of dancers from the New York area and around the country.
The next NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL BALLET COMPETITION will mark the organization's 25th Anniversary. Dancers from around the world will arrive in New York City for the two-week preparation period, June 8- 25, and public performances will take place June 24-28 at the Rose Theater, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Broadway and 60th Street. Founder Ilona Copen continues as Executive Director; Richard Chen See is Director; and Eleanor d'Anutono remains at Artistic Director.
Thunderbird American Indian Dancers will hold their 34th annual Dance Concert and Pow Wow at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue, from January 30 to February 8, 2009. The troupe's appearances benefit college funds for needy Native American students.
Dances Patrelle, 20th Repertory Season, will be presented April 16 – 19, 2009 at The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (68th Street between Park & Lexington Avenues) NYC. The diverse and exciting program will include a World Premiere as well as a past dance classic by Francis Patrelle.
